List of changes in SuperMemo for iPhone

Version 1.2 (iOS 4.0 tested)

Note: Synchronization of learning with the supermemo.net platform that has been announced is now in the testing stage and will be available in the next release of the application!

Enhancements:

  • A screen with useful guidelines has been added (bulb icon in the main menu). We invite you to have a look at them!
  • Users are informed about new courses available in the course catalog by notifications (Apple Push Notification Service).
  • Many improvements in the course catalogue: new courses and courses on offer are highlighted; changes in the interface, e.g. the 'Subjects' tab has been replaced with the 'Special offer' tab.
  • Options of creating backup copies of the database.
  • A feature that enables the user to enter the table of contents during repetitions or drills, improvement of the mechanism that marks the pages already introduced in the learning process.
  • In fill-in-the-gap exercises text fields adjust their length to the text that has to be provided.
  • Editing of a current page in user's courses is possible while learning (e.g. when the user spots an error, e.g. in the instruction).
  • Notification is displayed while updating (i.e. running a new version for the first time) the application.
  • Enhancements in editing user's courses (quick jump to the beginning/end of a list is possible), cosmetic interface changes.
  • Video components can be used on course pages.
  • Navigation bar can be displayed or hidden during learning in the landscape mode (double tap to show/hide; only for iOS 4.0).
  • Refreshing the study plan if the application was inactive when the date has been changed.

Bugfixes:

  • Several errors that could make the application collapse have been fixed.
  • Importing files with a large number of signs out of the ASCII standard has been fixed (it is necessary to limit the maximum size of the file to 500KB).
  • Error in the 1.1.1 version that was responsible for incorrect resetting of the learning progress has been fixed.
  • Corrections in the German translation.
  • Page numbering in imported courses (pages grouping 100 exercises were not numbered) and functioning of group pages have been fixed.
  • Numerous fixes in editing user's courses, especially dealing with the option of using the drag-and-drop mechanism to change the order of exercises. Now the mechanism supports 'group' exercises created while importing a course, the edition is much faster (even up to 100 times faster in some cases!) and more stable.
  • Options of answers in the droplist, checkbox and radio types of exercises are now displayed in random order.
  • Component responsible for displaying translations has been fixed, multilingual translations can now be supported.
  • Icons for chapters have been added (previously icons for presentation pages were displayed).
  • Using the Cut & Paste feature for exercises in user's courses does not cause the loss of some information about learning for these exercises (previously such an exercise would be moved from repetitions to the new material).
  • Application answer speed in the main menu has been improved (refreshing the amount of repetition is off when the user switches to a different screen).
  • Adjusting the learning screen orientation has been fixed when the user has entered the screen while in the landscape mode.
  • Functioning of the 'Already bought' button has been improved. The activity indicator that is displayed when this button is used now disappears in the correct moment, when the user's purchase list is completed. The application stability has also been fixed here.
  • Mechanism of phrase search in the dictionary has been improved.
  • Changing the type of an exercise into a presentation or chapter when the answer field was filled out does not disable the option of editing such an exercise.

Version 1.1

Enhancements:

  • Exercise pages adjust their size to the screen size (in the Portrait mode vertically, in the Landscape mode - horizontally).
  • Outdated drills will be automatically removed.
  • Import / Export feature through a browser has been added. The option is available in the 'Add course' context menu in the course edition screen.
  • Options of database Cleaning and Diagnostics have been added.
  • It is possible to learn and listen to the music at the same time. Playing music from iPod does not affect playing back the course recordings.
  • Option of refreshing information about previously bought courses has been added. After clicking the 'Already bought' button, the application checks which courses have been bought by the user but have not yet been downloaded and it updates the 'Download course' button for them. The option is useful in case of any problems with downloading a course that has been bought earlier.
  • The information on the repetition can be disabled from the level of the information itself.
  • Currency is displayed next to the price in the Course catalogue.

Bugfixes:

  • If for any reason the tables were not created in the database, the application will retry to create them.
  • Dictionary - incorrect encoding for some information has been fixed (e.g. parts of speech).
  • Auto-Correction and Auto-Capitalization are enabled for user course edition.
  • Application interface in the Courses menu while deleting the course has been blocked.
  • Memory load after entering and escaping the Course catalogue has been reduced.
  • The program does not slow down while visiting the Course catalogue for a longer time.
  • The application does not stop working when choosing to learn with no course available.
