The special version of SuperMemo “Forget me not” proved to be a perfect aid for the students of EMPiK School of Foreign Languages. It allowed us to circumvent the barrier in learning languages which is the disordered, laborious mastering of vocabulary. Nobody likes learning words and almost no-one has a good method for it. Unless you use SuperMemo! All the vocabulary included in the SuperMemo program has been integrated with the teaching cycle and textbooks used at EMPiK schools, which additionally increased the effectiveness of in-class lessons, raised the self-confidence and initiative of students. See http://www.speedometry.co.il/ Impel IT Impel IT is one of the companies who subscribed to a set of learning courses at the supermemo.NET Internet academy (http://www.supermemo.net) for a group of its employees. I encourage everybody, especially companies, to try the SuperMemo web service, with its language learning offer in particular. Our employees at Impel IT have access to language courses in the service. I will not write here about the merits of the method - its effectiveness and truly amazing potential – I am its ardent fan for years, but you have to simply try it out and become convinced yourself. I would like to draw the attention of corporate management to the possibilities provided by using SuperMemo for employee training. Firstly, instead of surfing around the net unproductively, they can use the free moments, which happen after all, for this very pleasant and beneficial form of learning. Secondly, the management has the everyday possibility to monitor the actual usage of the learning system and the progress of the employees. This helps, especially in the initial stage, to encourage employees to regularity which is the basis of success in this case. I wrote about the need for encouraging in the initial stage, because after a short time of using the system will prove its attracting values by itself. Thirdly, in comparison with the traditional forms of learning foreign languages, the learners lose one of the common excuses – they often do not attend the lessons financed by the companies justifying it with work overload, unexpected meetings, etc. With SuperMemo one can learn at any time of the day and night, in any part of the world, if only one has access to the Internet. SuperMemo has been applied at our school for about seven years. There are some important reasons why SuperMemo helps our pupils so well. Special education is for children that do not manage to learn in normal education. Among our pupils all kind of problems occur: epilepsy, autism, ADHD, NLD, dyslexia, chronic medical problems, learning disabilities, behavioral problems, etc. While a lot of problems have a neurological cause, memory problems occur frequently. Although the pupils might have normal intelligence learning process not always goes as it should go. That means that repetition of learning material is necessary. Onet.pl is the largest general Internet portal in Poland. Since November 2005 Onet.pl and SuperMemo World have joined forces to promote e-learning. One of supermemo.NET academy instances appears as the single e-learning solution at onet.pl.
EMPiK is a chain of language schools training constantly over 20,000 students in Poland. SuperMemo World prepared a customized version of SuperMemo, named “Forget me not”, which is used for accompanying in-class learning at EMPiK schools.
Speedometry is a commercial on-line service preparing Israeli university candidates for obligatory psychometric examinations. Speedometry is working now on the content preparing for matriculation exams in Israel. The service was built by Speedometry Ltd, and launched in January 2006, based on a licensing agreement with SuperMemo World.
